Supplies//
- Pumpkins
- Paint
- Foam brushes (a small 1″ + medium 2″ size)
- Baking Soda
- Paint tray or you can use a paper plate
How To//
- First, you will need to grab some pumpkins. I got two of mine from Home Depot and one from Lowes but you can use whatever plastic pumpkins you would like.
- The paint I used is from Sherwin-Williams in the color “Pottery Urn”. You can get 1 Quart Color To Go sample paint that comes in a twist-n-pour container for easy use. You can also use the paint colors “poncho” or “pottery wheel” by Behr or “Subdued Sienna” by Sherwin-Williams.
- Pour some of your paint into a paint tray or on a paper plate. Mix in baking soda to the paint until your desired consistency.
- Paint your pumpkins using a foam brush with 2-3 coats of paint. I used the small 1″ brush for the eyes and mouth of the pumpkins because it’s easier to get in the small spaces.
- On the last coat, wait until the paint is mostly dry but is still a little tacky. Pour or sprinkle baking soda all over your pumpkins depending on how white-washed you would like it.
- Dust off the remaining baking soda from your pumpkins.
- That’s it!
Fun tip: If you’re going for a more organic undone terracotta look like I was, you can be messy with it.
